Little Did I Know.com, an on-line baby gift
retail cooperative founded by, Darcy Volden
Miller, of Austin in 1999 is the first association
of its kind formally organizing mother
business owners to pool resources for
national marketing campaigns that would
not be possible within the budgets of these
small businesses. In addition, these women
use Little Did I Know.com to network, swap
services and share expertise that would
otherwise cost them significant amounts of
money if provided by paid consultants.
Miller says, “LDIK has been one of the biggest
factors in many of these small businesses’
success. It is difficult being one person
trying to introduce a new product into the
market, and a number of the moms in the
group have experience in this area. This
group works cooperatively to teach each
other how to work with retailers, generate
publicity for their products and most important-
ly, remind them that persistence will pay off in
the end." Miller says further, "These
mothers don’t have to feel alone in this
endeavor. Each mom in this group benefits
when another mom succeeds."
